Michael Canty
Consultant Paediatric and Adult Neurosurgeon, Royal Hospital for Children and the Institute of Neurological Sciences, Glasgow
Michael is a consultant paediatric and adult neurosurgeon at the Royal Hospital for Children and the Institute of Neurological Sciences, Glasgow. Following a degree in pharmacology at University College Dublin, and a Masters in neuroscience at the University of Edinburgh, he graduated in medicine from Oxford with a distinction. His neurosurgical training was in Dundee and Glasgow, and he then completed a year-long fellowship in paediatric neurosurgery at SickKids hospital in Toronto. He was appointed a consultant back in Glasgow in 2019.
His adult practice interests are movement disorders, trauma, congenital disorders and complex hydrocephalus, but he has recently changed to a more full-time paediatric neurosurgical practice, while maintaining his adult movement disorder work.
He served in the Army Reserve for 10 years with 205 (Scottish) Field Hospital as a medical officer. He is a keen runner, hiker, and avid film fan.
